Trump along with Japanese Recently Appointed Prime Minister Exchange Compliments and Vow to Strengthen ‘Extraordinary’ Relationship

During a recent visit to Tokyo, former American leader Trump and the Japanese recently elected Premier Takaichi exchanged warm praise and vowed to strengthen the currently robust bilateral ties.

Highlights from the Meeting

Donald Trump praised Prime Minister Takaichi as a ‘great’ figure and applauded her on becoming the nation's inaugural female prime minister. In their talks at the capital's official venue, the former president voiced optimism that Takaichi would prove to be one of the ‘great prime ministers’ of Japan.

The prime minister, who is a protégée of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, applauded Trump's initiatives to resolve international conflicts and according to sources pledged to nominate Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Trade and Defense Agreements

The two nations announced a series of collaborative initiatives in sectors such as energy, artificial intelligence, and rare earths. Japan-based firms are exploring funding of up to $400 billion in the US.

Furthermore, Japan had previously committed $550 billion in strategic American projects, loans, and assurances as part of an agreement to obtain relief from the former president's tariffs.

Such moves are viewed as possibly easing any future requests from the US side for Japan to increase its defense spending. The prime minister addressed this by promising to fast-track proposals to raise defense spending to two percent of GDP.
